At Lickteig Family Eye Care in Boston, we understand that people do not always care for their eyes as well as they should. Eye strain is an incredibly common problem, yet many people do not know what they can do to avoid it. Here are some tips from our optometrist on how to protect your eyes from eye strain:
- Dry Eyes: Many people suffer from dry eyes. If you fall into this category, applying eye drops a few times throughout the day can fix this problem. Eye drops keep your eyes well-lubricated and help them to not become overworked. Over the counter eye drops work well enough for most people, but we also offer prescription eye drops.
- Computer Vision: Many of us do not have a choice when it comes to sitting at the computer for a large portion of each day. This is why Computer Vision Syndrome has become so common. To avoid computer eye strain, make sure to take regular screen breaks. Allow your eyes to refocus before you begin working again.
- Proper Lighting: When you’re working on the computer or watching TV, make sure the lighting is appropriate so you don’t have to squint. When you’re reading, make sure the pages are properly illuminated. This eliminates unnecessary eye strain.
- Head Massage: For a few minutes a day, try massaging your head. This can improve blood flow and give your eyes a burst of energy. Next time you are feeling eye strain, put a timer on for five minutes, and give yourself a head massage. This will not only help you relax but also help your eyes recover
